Course Overview
Expressive Arts Therapy is a cross-modal discipline that integrates expressive arts and psychology. It engages the five senses and five integrated art media, including visual arts, music, dance, drama, and creative writing. Through creative connection and exploration of one’s body, emotions, and mind, these practices are transformed into personal inner resources, fostering personal well-being, mind, and body, as well as social growth and transformation.
Kunst EXA Expressive Arts Academy offers a comprehensive range of expressive arts training courses, including the Expressive Arts Experiential Course, the Hong Kong Intermodal Expressive Arts Therapy Professional Certificate (One-Year Certificate), and Creative Arts Therapy Supervision, catering to diverse learners and their specific learning needs.
The Expressive Arts courses are primarily designed for therapists, counselors, psychologists, artists, life planners, teachers, parents, social workers, and individuals working in supportive roles or seeking personal growth. No prior artistic experience is required for the first two phases of the course; simply an interest in art is sufficient.

Experiential Activities/Courses
Our organization offers a variety of expressive arts experiential activities and courses, allowing participants to explore different artistic media, create with confidence, and experience the power of expressive arts. Through various online and in-person sharing sessions, one-off workshops, day camps, and introductory courses, participants can learn about and master the basic concepts, philosophies, and interactive methods of expressive arts therapy. The content combines both theoretical and experiential elements.

Hong Kong Intermodal Expressive Arts Professional Certificate
This program is the first professional training institution and program in Asia to be accredited by Dr. Paolo J. Knill, the founder of the expressive arts therapy discipline, and the European Graduate School (EGS affiliate).
Led by the phenomenological perspective of expressive arts, this year-long program explores and experiences various art forms, learning the psychological benefits and techniques of each. Specific themes, such as theological aesthetics and Chinese philosophy, will also be explored throughout the course to enrich the application of expressive arts techniques. Through connecting and exploring their bodies, emotions, and minds, students learn to connect with their inner worlds and the world they live in, transforming their inner resources through creative expression and gaining a new perspective on life.

Master’s/PhD Program in Expressive Arts Therapy with a Minor in Psychology (European Graduate School, Switzerland)
An expressive arts therapist is someone who utilizes expressive arts therapy within psychotherapy. Through expressive arts therapy, they help clients find inner resources through art, cope with life’s challenges, and adjust their physical and mental well-being, thereby promoting personal growth and transformation. To become a qualified IDEC® Expressive Arts Therapist, students will complete a professional expressive arts therapy program in Hong Kong and at the European Institute in Switzerland each summer (Summer Intensive, 21st). This program also includes completing specific internship hours, supervisory work, and a thesis.
Those who complete the master’s program can practice as expressive arts therapists, while those who complete the doctoral program can become supervisors of expressive arts therapists. Both programs, combined with the required practice and supervision hours, can apply for internationally recognized registered expressive arts therapist status with the International Expressive Arts Therapists Association (IEATA). This program is suitable for those interested in pursuing a career in expressive arts therapy or applying it within their professional field.
